-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bella sat sulking at breakfast. She had made up her mind not to see Peter again. She knew she had to marry Lionel and dragging Peter into was cruel and thoughtless. It killed her to stay away, but she just had to. Peter sat under the tree most of the day. He was disappointed when he realized she wasn’t coming. He rode back to Cair Paravel and went straight to his room. Bella was sitting out on her porch under the beautiful flowering tree she loved so much. It was night and the sky was clear. They bright light from the stars was reflecting down on her face. She smiled faintly as she thought of Peter, but the smile quickly turned into a frown. Victoria walked up next to her and sat down. “What is it Bella?” she asked seeing the sadness in her eyes. “I’m going to miss Peter terribly.” Bella said. Victoria nodded. “You are brave Bella, and strong.” She said as she reached for her friend’s hand. Bella felt a slow tear run down her cheek. “I must marry Lionel, it is what my father wanted.”
Lucy knocked on Peter’s door. She heard him call her in. She opened the door slowly. Inside Peter was sitting next to an open window staring at the stars. “Peter, I brought you some food since you weren’t at dinner.” She said as she came in with a tray. She set it down and walked up behind her brother. “What is the matter?” she asked concerned. “I’m not well Lu.” He answered. She put a comforting hand on his shoulder. “This is about her isn’t it?” Peter turned to his sister in shock. “Oh Peter, I’m your sister. I can tell that you are in love.” She said with a giggle. He smiled and relaxed. “Yes Lucy, it is.” “Why does it make you sad?” Peter looked into his sister’s innocent face. “It just isn’t meant to be. It is an impossible love.” He said sadly. Lucy was quiet. She didn’t exactly understand her brother but she understood the deep sadness in his eyes. She didn’t say any more on the matter. “Oh, I just remembered Susan wanted me to pick out fabric for our new dresses for the wedding.” Said Lucy. “Well then you should be off, you know how Susan is when we are late.” He teased. Lucy laughed. “Goodnight Peter.” She gave her brother a gentle kiss on the cheek and fluttered out of the room. Peter had to see Bella. He decided that he would go to their spot everyday until she appeared. Their love was impossible, but the pull she had over him was too strong to ignore.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 14 Peter was frustrated and hurt. He had ridden to their secret place every day and Bella was never there. Every night he stormed back into the castle, by passed dinner with his family, and went to his room. Edmund and Lucy understood and Susan was so busy with her wedding plans that she hardly even noticed. Does everyone have everything they need?” Susan asked the morning they were leaving for Archenland. he other three shot annoyed looks at their sister. I’m just checking.” She said defensively. Edmund and Peter both rolled their eyes as they mounted their horses. Lucy and Susan stepped into the carriage and sat down. They began their ride to Anvard.
Bella stood quietly in a room as Victoria fixed her hair. She looked at herself in the mirror and frowned. “It’s going to be alright Bella.” Victoria said calmly as she put the veil on Bella’s head. Bella felt a tear sneak out of her eye. She had been trying hard to convince herself that marrying Lionel was the right choice, but she was so deeply in love with Peter. She hadn’t been to their secret place in weeks, but she had a feeling that he had been there looking for her. “Is she ready?” a servant popped into the room to check on Bella. “She’ll just be one more minute.” Said Victoria as she dismissed the servant. The Pevensies were sitting in the great hall waiting for the ceremony to begin. They had arrived in the city not long before. They were all sitting anxiously. Lucy pulled at her tight fitting dress. Susan tried to stop her from fussing. Edmund was trying to stay awake as the soft music played. Peter was the most anxious. He had the strangest feeling about the wedding. “Bella, its time.” Victoria said sternly. Bella nodded and wiped the tear from her eye. She pulled her veil down over her face and walked out the door. She saw Lionel standing at the far end of the great hall smiling like he had won a competition. She slowly walked towards him while Victoria followed holding up the train of her dress. The Pevensies stood as the bride glided down the isle in her long white gown. None of them could clearly see her face due to her veil, but they could tell she wasn’t happy. Peter frowned. He wouldn’t be pleased if one of his sisters was marrying Lionel. He didn’t trust his sly smile. He felt sorry for the young princess who was moments away from being his bride.
Bella took Lionel’s hand while the guests remained standing. Lionel and Bella knelt before the priest as he went on with his traditional words. Bella’s heart had never felt so heavy. She knew she would never be happy again. Why did her father have to die? He promised it would never end up like this. She felt her eyes releasing tears. She stood to face Lionel. He would not stop grinning his foolish grin. He took the veil away from her face and kissed her as they were pronounced. Bella heard the cheering crowd seal her fate. She pulled away from Lionel’s greedy lips. Peter still couldn’t see the princess. She was pulling away from Lionel now. He strained to catch a glimpse of her. Lionel had began to pull her out into the crowd of guests who would now be joining them in a celebration. Peter could see her beautiful blonde hair. Finally she turned her head and Peter stumbled back. It was Bella. She had been crying. It was obvious to him. Suddenly everything made sense. When he met Lionel was about the time she disappeared. He began to gasp for air as he reached for Edmund. “What is it Peter?” Edmund asked feeling a tugging on him arm. “That is Bella, my Bella!” he shouted angrily. Edmund’s eyes widened. “It can’t be.” “Ed, I love her…I think I know what she looks like by now.” Peter stated. “But…I don’t understand. You said she was a commoner and this woman is a princess.” Said Edmund. “I thought she was a commoner. Apparently there was a lot we were both keeping from each other.” Peter sat down. The full weight of the situation was beginning to hit him now. What was he going to do? “Ed, tell me what to do? Should I reveal myself to her?” Peter asked. “Well today does seem to be the day for surprises doesn’t it?” he answered.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Peter decided to go outside for some air before confronting Bella. The celebration had already begun. Everyone was eating, dancing, and laughing. Susan and Lucy were both dancing and unaware of the current problem. Edmund was waiting for his brother to come back inside. He was also keeping an eye on Bella who was dancing with Lionel. She did not look happy. Finally Peter came back inside. “Are you ready?” Edmund asked. “It’s right now or not at all.” Peter announced. He walked up to Lionel and tapped him on the shoulder. “Could I steal your beautiful bride for a dance good sir?” he asked. “Of course your highness.” Lionel put Bella’s hand in Peter’s and walked away. Bella couldn’t speak. She was so confused. She had too many emotions flying through her head. Nothing was making sense. Why was Peter here? How did he get here? Why did Lionel call him “your highness”? Peter moved her around in the dance. “I felt the same way when I saw your face come out from under your veil.” Peter said responding to her silence and confused look. “I just don’t understand. Who are you?” she asked. “Peter, the High King of Narnia. And you must be Princess Annabelle, the soon to be queen of Archenland.” He said sounding upset. She nodded. “How could this happen?” “We both had secrets.” Peter said. Bella began to cry again. “Now what?” “Now you will be his wife and I will go home.” Peter said plainly. “But I love you.” Said Bella desperately. “You haven’t come to see me in weeks.” He said bitterly. “I thought it was best.” Bella pleaded. “Well now I think it is best that I leave. Best wishes to you my love.” He kissed her hand and stormed away. Edmund followed. Bella stood in the middle of the room trying hard to fight back the floor of tears she felt coming. Lionel found her. “You are upset my dear?” he asked. She nodded slightly. “Well I can fix that.” He said as he pulled on her hand to take her upstairs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 15 Bella pulled the sheets tighter around her bare body. Lionel had fallen asleep with her still in his hard grip. She lay awake thinking about the events of the day. She knew her wedding day wouldn’t be pleasant but it had turned out worse than she imagined. She could see Peter’s hurt face in her head. The image haunted her. She felt a stream of warm tears roll down her cheeks. She desperately wanted sleep to overtake her so she could escape, but no matter how hard she tried she remained awake. ********** Peter had insisted that his family make the long journey home that same night. Lucy and Susan slept in the carriage while Peter and Edmund rode in the darkness. Edmund wanted to talk to his brother but he had no idea what to say. Peter was relieved to see the large lit castle coming closer. He sped up a little. Without saying a word he dismounted his horse and went inside. He collapsed onto his bed. The shock of the day was hitting him hard now. He cried for the first time in years and fell asleep. ********** Lionel awoke the next morning to find Bella already up and dressed. “Good morning my dear.” He said. She gave a fake smile and said nothing back. “I’m sorry I cannot spend the morning with you. I must have a meeting with my counselors and generals but I will see you tonight.” She remained silent as she stared out the window. “What are you going to do all day?” he asked. She turned away from the window to face him. “I thought I would take a ride.” She answered simply.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Peter woke early the next morning. He resolved to move on quickly and stay busy. He ate breakfast without saying more than two words and was done before everyone else. He stood from his seat. “I’m going to go have a talk with Oreius about a few things.” He said. He walked out of the dining hall briskly. Edmund followed him. “Peter.” He said as he caught his brother’s arm. Peter turned. “Are you alright?” “Yes Ed, I am fine but I’m busy so I will see you later.” He pulled away from his grip and continued to walk. Edmund shook his head. “He’s not well.” ********** Bella rode quickly to the tree expecting to see Peter there. They need to talk. So much had gone unsaid but when she arrived she saw she was alone. She fell down under the tree and wept bitterly into her arm. She had lost the only man she ever truly loved. Two weeks passed and once again Bella was being prepared for a life changing ceremony. Victoria fixed her hair and Bella was silent. “This is always what you wanted.” Victoria said breaking the silence. “I know, but I pictured it differently. I wanted to rule this land with someone that I really love by my side. I wanted to be happy.” She said sorrowfully. “You love your people Bella, and this land. Today you will have them by your side.” She kissed her friend on the forehead. ********** Peter sat alone under the great tree. He knew today was Bella and Lionel’s coronation. He could hear the trumpets of Anvard proclaim it. He couldn’t help but feeling sad. His eyes were fixated on the large castle in the distance. His heart grew heavier and heavier as the moments passed on.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bella felt the weight of the crown coming down on her head with a crushing force. She looked over at Lionel who was smiling. He had already adjusted to the feel of his crown. He looked eager to test out his new found authority. She looked away as the clapping of the crowd grew louder. She thought of Peter. Where was he? Was his heart hurting like hers was or had he already found love with another woman? She felt Lionel’s had on her arm breaking her thoughts. “Bella dear? We have a feast to attend my love.” He said as he held her hand. She nodded and passed through the cheering crowd to the next room. Peter could hear the celebration in Anvard even from where he was. He sighed a heavy sigh as he stood up. “Goodbye Bella, and good luck.” He whispered. He mounted his horse and slowly rode back to Cair Paravel. Later that night when Lionel was finished with Bella and asleep she slipped out of bed and pulled her gown back on. She tip toed back to her own room. She sat down in front of the mirror and set her crown back onto her head gently. Suddenly she was afraid. “Oh father, please help me to rule your people the way you would have wanted me to. Help me to be just and beloved.” She whispered. “Bella?” Victoria’s voice came from behind her. Bella turned to her friend crying. “Oh Victoria, I’m so afraid.” Victoria held Bella in a tight hug. “I know dear, I know.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 16 A year passed. Bella was lying with her stomach down on her bed while Victoria rubbed some sort of ointment onto her bruised skin. Victoria shook her head. “Bella, this cannot keep happening.” She said seriously. Bella nodded her head. “I know, but how can I stop it?” she asked. “You have to make him be gentle with you. Just because Lionel is your husband does not mean he can treat you any old way.” Bella lay quietly. “Have you been resisting him?” Victoria asked. Bella didn’t answer. She had been, but didn’t want to admit it. “Bella, you can’t do that. I know that you do not love him but it is part of you job as a wife to please him. When you resist is when he gets violent and you end up here.” Victoria scolded. Bella began to cry. “You are right…but I can’t help doing it.” “Dearest, I know you still love him but its time to let it go. It has been over a year since your coronation and you’ve been miserable. It pains me to see you this way. Please, just try to get on with your life.” Bella stared of in thought. “I just can’t do it…our love was too strong for me to forget it.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Susan, why is it that the first time you come back to Cair Paravel to visit you have to boss me around like you know more than me?” Peter asked with an annoyed tone. Susan had married Prince Philip six months before. She had moved into his castle across the sea but had returned to Cair Paravel for a visit with her family. She had instantly started nagging Peter because he had not yet chosen a bride. “I’m just saying Peter you are not getting any younger and I think this country would really appreciate it if you would just choose a bride. Stop tugging everyone back and forth.” She said sternly. Edmund and Lucy sat at the table looking down at their plates. Susan’s new husband who was not used to the siblings fights also sat quietly. “I am not tugging anyone!” he shouted. “Oh please, how many women have you tried courting in the last year?” Susan asked. “I don’t know the exact number…” Peter said. “I think its getting near twenty.” Edmund said. Peter shot an angry glance at his brother. “See, that sounds like tugging to me.” Susan said. “Just pick one! There could not have been something wrong with all twenty of those girls. I just refuse to believe that.” Peter got up from his seat at the table. “I don’t want to talk about this right now Susan.” He quickly walked away from the table and went down to the beach. He sat down in the sand and sighed heavily. His thoughts trailed off to Bella. He wondered what she was doing now and if she was happy. He lay down in the sand and quickly drifted into a light dreamful sleep.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Several hours later Peter woke as the tide came up to his feet. He was startled until he remembered where he was. He got up and slipped back into the castle. It was late now and his siblings were sleeping. He sat down at his desk to get some work done. As Peter worked a hooded figure riding a horse was rapidly approaching Cair Paravel. Peter could hear yelling out his open window followed by the sound of the draw bridge being lowered. He thought it odd that someone would be coming to visit this late at night. He decided that if it was important someone would come get him. He continued with his work. The figure rode into the castle and dismounted. It handed off its horse to a stable boy and went directly into the castle. The figure pulled its hood down further as it asked a servant to speak with the High King. The voice of the figure demanded respect and obedience. No one questioned it. Peter looked up from his work. He could hear soft footsteps coming down the hall toward his room. He had learned from his time as King to pick up on distant noises. The footsteps grew closer. He stood from his seat and drew his sword. The figure slowly entered Peter’s room. He was nervous. “Who are you?” he asked quietly. The figure just stood. “Who are you!” he shouted. The figure didn’t move at all. Peter was getting angry. He stepped closer to it with his sword out in front of him. As he grew nearer he could see strands of blonde hair from under the dark hood. “Tell me who you are and why you are here.” He demanded.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “I am here to see the King.” The figure whispered. It was the voice of a woman. He was confused now. He took the hood and whipped it off the woman’s head. Her long blonde hair cascaded out of it and he could see her beautiful eyes. He stumbled back and dropped his sword. “Bella?” he asked in disbelieve. She moved closer to him. “Of course, I had to be near you Peter. I had to see you.” He moved in closer to her. He took her hands in his. The feeling of her body up against his took his breath away. He tried for a long time to speak but wasn’t able to. “Oh Bella, I’ve wanted to see you for so long now. I love you.” He finally got out. She smiled. “I love you too, more than you know.” He closed the space between their mouths with a passionate kiss. It had been so long since he tasted her kiss he had forgotten just how wonderful it was. He pressed her in closer to him and deepened the kiss. He untied the tie on her cloak and let it slip off her shoulders. She was wearing a beautiful light blue dress underneath. He ran his hands down the length of her sides. She wrapped her arms around his neck and enjoyed every touch. She reached for the belt around his waist but abruptly stopped and pulled away. “What is it?” he asked her as he stroked her face. “I didn’t want to push you, it’s just that I’ve missed you so much. I just needed to see you. I’m sorry Peter.” She said quietly. He smiled at her concern. “I love you Bella. I want this.” He leaned in and kissed her again. As he kissed her his hands began to slip her dress off. She didn’t stop him for she wanted it too.

As he pulled her dress of he could see the bruises on her back and arms. He stopped and looked at her. “Bella, what are these from?” She did not answer. “Are they from Lionel?” he sounded angry. She shook her head yes. He sighed heavily. “He’ll pay.” “I don’t want to talk about Lionel. Tonight is for you and I.” she said lovingly as she pulled his tunic over his head and continued the kiss.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lionel paced his room back and forth. Where was Bella? He hadn’t seen her the day before and now she had disappeared in the middle of the night. He had questioned her lady Victoria, but al she had to offer was that she was helping a sick friend in the village. Lionel was smart, he could see right through lies. He knew that Bella was somewhere with someone, but where and with who? The thoughts tormented him as he continued to pace the room. His solitude was invaded when a servant entered the room.
“We’ve been everywhere your highness. No one has located the Queen.” He said desperately.
Lionel’s face showed the anger that was collecting inside him. “Keep searching. No one is to rest until she is recovered.” He demanded.
The servant bowed to the King’s order and left the room.
Lionel wracked his brain. Who would Bella run to that lived outside the walls of Anvard?
Bella was lying next to Peter enjoying the soft touch of his fingers on her bare skin. It was the earliest hours of the morning. It was still mostly dark out, but the sun was just sending out the slightest hint of light from far past the mountains. She was staring at him.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked her noticing her gaze.
“What is your family going to say when they find out I am here?” she asked with a worried tone.
“I am the High King, and they will support me.” He said strongly.
“I am putting you in danger by being here. Lionel will have noticed that I’m missing.” She said.
Peter kissed her forehead. “Bella, there is no need for worrying. I will take care of everything.” He promised.
She smiled trying hard to believe him. They both settled back into a light sleep.
Lionel had been awake all night. Hour after hour his soldiers would return to him empty handed, and he would send them back out again. He was frustrated. He had enough. He stormed into Bella’s room where Victoria was nervously looking out the window.
“Victoria!” he yelled loudly as he entered the room. Startled she turned to see Lionel coming at her. He grabbed her arm and pushed her down into a chair.
“Tell me where she is now! I’ve had enough of these games.” He shouted still holding onto her tightly.
“I already told you where she is.” Victoria said trying to hold back her tears.
“I can tell you are lying. Where is she?”
Victoria shook her head at him. She wasn’t going to betray Bella.
“Do you think that I won’t find her?” he shouted again. Victoria’s tears began to flow as he twisted her arm causing pain.
He was close to her face screaming loudly when a soldier burst into her room.
“Your Highness, we know where she is!” he announced.
Victoria’s terror stricken face looked up at the solider.
“Well?” Lionel asked calmly.
“A servant saw her head toward Narnia. We questioned Narnians who confirmed that they saw her ride in on her horse last night and she hasn’t left.”
“She rode into Cair Paravel?” Lionel asked confused.
“Yes sire, that is what they said.” He reported.
Lionel couldn’t understand what drove Bella to the High King, but now he knew where she was and he was going after her.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Peter! Peter come quickly!” Edmund called to his brother from outside the door.
Peter ran to the door and opened it to see Edmund’s nervous face.
“What is it?” he asked.
Edmund held out a rolled up piece of paper. “A boy just came with news. King Lionel is bringing an army. He means to rage war with Narnia.”
Peter sighed deeply. He knew that Bella had come to him.
“Peter? Why is he doing this?” Edmund asked.
Peter looked at his brother knowing that he couldn’t keep the truth from him. He opened up the door further revealing Bella.
Edmund’s nervous face changed to one of shock.
“Peter are you insane!” he yelled. “You have his Queen in your room!”
“I love her Ed, and he is mistreating her. I cannot let that go. If he wants to fight for her, then we will fight ant I will win. Simple as that.” He said proudly.
Edmund turned away from his brother angrily to prepare the army for the inevitable battle that would soon take place. Bella paced nervously in Peter’s room.
“Peter, this is awful. I told you I would be putting your family and kingdom in danger if I stayed. Please just let me meet him on the road and this will all go away.” She said frantically.
Peter grabbed her shoulders to settle her. “Bella my love, I want him to come. This needs to end. He cannot keep mistreating you as he has been. He doesn’t deserve you.”
She began to cry. “Peter please…let me go.”
“No, I will not.” He demanded. He held her closely as she continued to cry.
Lionel’s troops moved quickly toward Cair Paravel. It was more than Bella fleeing to the High King. He knew something else had been going on behind his back. He wasn’t about to let anyone make a fool of him. He intended to get to the bottom of the situation and retaliate.
“Peter…he’s here.” Edmund said a few hours later. Peter grabbed Bella’s hand and brought her into the throne room.
“Tell him we will speak here.” Peter said.
Susan and Lucy had been informed of the situation and were asked to join the boys in the throne room. Peter felt it necessary to have his entire family standing up next to him.
Lionel stormed into the throne room.
“Bella, you come back home this instant.” He said seriously.
She looked over at Peter for help.
“She will not be returning to Anvard Lionel.” Peter said with a glare.
“And who are you to tell me what my wife will and will not do?” Lionel asked.
“The man who loves her.” He replied.
Lionel looked stunned at first, but then it all made sense. Bella had been disappearing since before they were married. She must have been meeting with Peter the whole time.
“This is outrageous! Bella you will come back if you know what’s good for you.”
Peter stood from his throne and walked up to Lionel.
“We will settle this on the battle field Lionel.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was it. Peter stared out onto the battlefield knowing that Lionel could not alive. As always Edmund was next to him but feeling cautious.
“Peter, are you sure there is not other way to settle this?” he asked as they waited on their horses.
“Ed do you see any other way? If I don’t kill him today he going to own her forever. I just cannot let that happen.”
Edmund put his head down. He knew his brother was right but he was afraid. Lionel was known for being fierce on the battlefield and he was nervous for Peter.
Bella sat up in the castle overlooking the pending battle. Lucy and Susan stood with her. She couldn’t sit still.
“Bella can I get something to relax you?” Susan asked.
Bella shook her head no as she paced anxiously.
“You needn’t worry. My brothers will take care of everything.” Said Lucy sweetly.
Bella forced a quick smile. “I just can’t help but feeling responsible. Lives are going to be lost today and it’s my fault.” She trailed off and began to cry.
As a formality Peter sent a messenger under a white flag with terms of peace to Lionel. The Kings watched as the boy crossed the battlefield.
Lionel took the paper from the boy, read it and turned to his general.
“Was this really necessary?” he said with a laugh.
“This is what I say to your King’s peace terms.” He quickly thrust his sword into the boy’s chest.
Peter watched horrified as the boy tumbled off his horse and fell to the ground. Fury entered his eyes.
“Let’s go right now Edmund. We are going to make Lionel wish he never crossed Narnia!”
Peter began to charge the battlefield. Edmund and the army quickly followed their High King.
Lionel smiled sickly. “Let’s move men! Today Narnia is ours!” Lionel and his men took off.
The girls held their breath as the two armies collided. It was impossible to see what was happening. There were men and animals clashing and falling left and right.
Bella tightly clung to Susan and Lucy as her eyes frantically searched the field for Peter.
Edmund stayed as close to Peter as he could during the fighting. He was prepared to die for his brother. Peter fought his way closer and closer to Lionel. Every few minutes their eyes would meet with equal intensity. They wanted each other’s lives.
Finally Peter cut down the last man in between him and Lionel.
“Get off your horse, I want to fight you man to man!” Lionel called out.
Both men dismounted and approached one another.
“Ready to die High King Peter?” Lionel teased.
“No I’m not, which is why I won’t be the one leaving this world today.” He snapped back and quickly lunged forward.
Finally Bella caught sight of the two men. She gasped in horror.
“Lionel is going to kill Peter!” she screamed.
“Oh no, my brother is the best swordsman in all of Narnia.” Boasted young Lucy.
Susan understood Bella’s fear. “We just need to have some faith.” She said quietly.
“Have you ever seen Lionel fight? He is fierce, he’s never even been wounded badly in a battle before.” Said Bella seriously.
They turned their attention back to the fight.
Peter was surprised at how well Lionel was able to fight. He had already been going at him for over ten minutes and Lionel hadn’t seemed phased at all. Peter was giving it his all.
“Is this all you have your majesty?” Lionel continued to tease.
Peter was furious. He ran at Lionel with all of his might, but Lionel was quicker. He moved out of the way and struck Peter from behind.
Peter fell to the ground wincing in pain. Edmund rushed forward to help his brother. He knelt down next to him and touched his blood soaked back.
“Peter…this is a severe wound.” He whispered.
“I can still fight.” Peter said as he struggled to his feet.
Lionel stood in front of him looking proudly at his blood stained sword.
“Back for more?” he asked.
Peter advanced again but he was much too slow from his injury. Lionel ran him through the stomach with his sword.
Edmund screamed out to Lionel, “Stop it!” just as Peter fell to the ground for a second time.
Bella had fled from her position overlooking the fight. She had to do something. She mounted her horse as quickly as she could and made her way out to the battlefield ignoring the protests of the girls.
Edmund held his brother as he bled out onto the field.
“I suggest you say anything that needs to be said.” Lionel sneered to Edmund. “Because I am giving your brother about two more minutes to live.”
Slow tears began to streak Peter’s face. “Ed…” he whispered. “Please do what you can to help Bella. She means the world to me.”
Lionel began to raise his sword to finish the High King when he heard a desperate cry.
“Lionel please wait!” It was Bella who was racing toward them on her horse.
Lionel rolled his eyes. “Being the generous man I am I will let you say goodbye, but quickly…he is about to die from his injuries and I want the satisfaction of killing him.”
Bella ignored Lionel’s words and flew to Peter’s side. She took his bloody hand in her own.
“Peter you will not die do you hear me? I will not allow it.”
He took all the strength he had left to raise his hand to her cheek. “I love you Bella, and I’m sorry that I couldn’t free you.”
Lionel was out of patience. “Alright that is enough!” He just about to drive his sword into Peter’s chest when he was confronted by someone he did not expect to see.
He was knocked onto his back by a huge lion.
“Aslan!” Edmund shouted. Bella stopped crying as she stared in awe of the creature. She had heard tales of the glorious lion but had never seen him.
Aslan turned from Lionel who was still on the ground from shock and made his way to Peter.
“Would you like to finish him or shall I?” he asked with a grin.
Peter felt energized and stood up. “I’ll do it.” Peter walked over to Lionel and held his sword over his chest.
“Please Your Greatness, spare me!” he pleaded. Peter’s soft heart responded.
“You will stay locked up for as long as I please until I decide what is to be done with you.”
Peter turned away from Lionel to talk to Aslan, but as he turned Lionel jumped up from the ground to strike.
No one knows exactly what happened after that. Edmund swore that Aslan bit Lionel’s head right off, Bella was sure that Peter sensed Lionel and quickly cut his head off with his sword. The end of that battle turned into a legend and the stories grew. Narnia will never be sure how Lionel died, but it was certain that he was no longer a threat.
Peter was taken back to Cair Paravel where his wounds were treated for weeks. Aslan’s presence filled Peter with hope and gave him the strength to recover.
Edmund was praised for his bravery and courage.
Susan and Lucy were indescribably happy that both of their beloved brothers survived the battle.
After Peter healed he married Bella. Aslan stayed for the ceremony and then vanished as he always did.
Months passed and Narnia once again settled back into its peaceful rhythm.
Bella was tucked underneath a beautiful flowering tree reading as she loved to do. The wind brought in a bit of a chill. Peter slowly crept up to her and pulled a blanket over her legs. He sat down next to her and held her hand.
“I love you, have I told you today?” he said as she looked up from her book.
“I think you might have.” She teased.
“You are all smiles today my dear, is something on your mind?” he asked.
She closed her book and set it down. She locked her eyes with his and sighed. She moved his hand that was in hers onto her stomach.
“I love you too, very much.” She said with a giggle.
Peter’s face exploded into a smile as she moved his hand over her stomach.
